Tuesday’s Cancer new moon (12:17 p.m. pacific) is also a total solar eclipse. A solar eclipse is basically a new moon on steroids, packing double the heat. Add to that a Mercury retro that straddles two signs, and a couple of volatile squares, and, well, it depends on how you rock it, but there’s definitely going to be fireworks around the 4th of July.
Generally, a new moon means new beginnings, but this one is fraught with drama and punctuated by start-stop energy. A solar eclipse can definitely stir things up, but we’ve also got a Mercury retrograde that begins on July 7, but has already begun to slow down.
This Mercury retro is an interesting one, as it begins in dramatic, gregarious Leo, then retros back into emotional Cancer. Again, my best retro advice is to stay mindful and don’t be pulled into arguments. And don’t forget my other best advice: be flexible and open to sudden brilliant ideas.
And there are a couple squares involving heavy hitters Uranus (squaring Mars and Mercury–watch out for heated exchanges that could upset the apple cart) and Neptune (challenging Jupiter, which could make excess seem like a good idea).
I’m not saying don’t start anything during the month of July (Mercury retro will officially end on July 31, though we’ll need to give it another week to get back up to speed). But I am saying proceed with caution, plans, back-up plans, and a sense of humor.
Nonetheless, this can be a powerful new moon for manifesting. A strong new moon responds to strong desires firmly impressed on higher consciousness. Anytime on Tuesday after 12:17 p.m. would be a good time to write down, share and/or visualize what you’d like to create over the next month.
