Cancer is the sign of the mother. The second eclipse in the 3-eclipse cycle gives us the opportunity to bring our nurturing energies into the world around us. Whether you are thinking large or small, this is a time for healing, respite and fortifying. And in spite of the many obstacles to forward movement, it’s still a good time to chart your course, and to take the steps you are impelled to take at this time.
Yes, one of the major impediments to taking action now is the Mercury retro that begins tonight (9:59 p.m. pacific). Perhaps what the gods, or whatever you want to call the universal energy source, had in mind when they created the Universe, was that rest and down-time be given to us in an interesting little package called Mercury retrograde. It works kind of like a jack-in-the-box, if you keep winding it up, or trying to push ahead, and achieve, a little prankster pops out. And it’s not that the joker can’t be of service, it’s just that you’re probably going to have to do it in an out-of-the-box manner. Creativity, repair, revision…you know the spiel. Check and double-check reservations, dates, times, other details. And of course, be flexible and have a sense of humor. Mercury retro officially goes until July 12, but give it till July 19 to get out of its storm period.
As I have mentioned before, the time between eclipses is both precarious and exciting. Eclipses represent a temporary suspension of natural laws. If you’ve ever been out in the forest at night during a lunar eclipse, you have probably heard owls or other birds going wild as the moon changed. The first humans believed that eclipses were portents, and often they did precede great change. We are ripe for great, transformational change now. So what better to kick that off than a 3-eclipse cycle?
Think back to two weeks ago, the Sagittarius lunar eclipse came on amidst a volatile uprising, and while the eclipse seemed to magnify and accelerate dramatic events in progress, it also lit up something that needed to be seen, which brought about conversations and opportunities for education, which is a Sagittarius domain. An eclipse will shed light on things previously hidden or ignored. It can bring tensions to a boiling point, especially a lunar eclipse.
Saturday’s solar eclipse at zero degrees Cancer (11:41 p.m. pacific) will bring out the mother in many of us. And it is a good time to focus on nurturing, home and family. But an eclipse always asks more than a regular new moon. An eclipse challenges us to bring it to the next level. In other words, yes, all mothers (and nurturers) are being summoned now. Perhaps the question for this eclipse is “How can I nurture the leaders of the future?” or “How can I help to give birth to the world I want to experience?”
I have spoken before about how these times are demanding more of us. Remember the question “How can I get out of my comfort zone, even while sitting on my couch?” Well, maybe you’re not on your couch or not anymore, but the world is changing. The question is how are we going to change along with it, not out of fear, but in the service of true purpose.
Yes, there are a lot of other retros going on right now, too. Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto. And Neptune turns around next Tuesday. The cumulative effect of this: caution in everything, but spiritual growth is low-hanging fruit right now. You may stumble upon insights into why you do what you do, and solutions to long-held problems. Meditate, be creative, have a routine, and by all means do what your job requires, even if the boss is away. But do listen for the trumpets of angels, or the voice within, and follow its urgings.
The next eclipse, July 4, will be the bell-ringer of the cycle. More truth will come out, more whistleblowers perhaps, in government and industry may come forward. This will be an important time in our country’s history, and we will see big evidence of a shift around this time. Be ready. Again, not out of fear, but preparedness never hurt anyone. Tune into your intuition. Ask the question “What do I need to know?” and “What should I prepare for?”” I will talk more about this in the next post.
Intuition is at a high point for those who wish to tap into it, as is creativity, and the occasional brilliant idea. Be like Einstein: go for walks, intersperse mental and physical activities, maybe do some work around the house, as the Cancer solar eclipse rules the domain of the home, and give your brain a rest from time to time. Think of the down-time as needed for the care and nurturing of your inner genius.
And speaking of genius ideas, you will have a luckier and more brilliant month if you attend my New Moon Circle on Saturday, June 20 at 6:00 p.m. pacific via Zoom. Admission is free, but I suggest a $20 donation (or whatever amount you can contribute) to Feeding America. Please email me to RSVP.
Solstice Blessings,
