Monday’s 10 degree Capricorn new moon (2:27 p.m. pacific) sails in on a gust of luck and opportunity. And the good vibes keep flowing, as long as you don’t mind a few interesting challenges, and you are resourceful, (a key Capricorn trait) finding ways to use any seeming obstacles to propel you forward.

Did you heed my advice to set intentions on the winter solstice? If so, great. Now, use this new moon to go back over them, recommit, and add or subtract anything you need to. If not, no worries. This new moon is as good a time as any to put out these intentions in a powerful way. AND there’s a lucky Cazimi period (in which them sun and moon are at the same degree) from 1:57 – 2:57 p.m. on Monday which is the perfect time to focus on intentions and the actions to set them out to sail.

And what makes intention-setting powerful versus “another year, same stuff that hasn’t happened yet”?

Well, a couple of things. First, get clear on why you want a certain thing. Dig a little deeper. Check for “shoulds” and other outside influences. Then ask yourself, if this is something you’ve been intending for a while, how you can make this intention new. Then invite guidance in (usually through meditation) to tell you anything you need to know about this intention and how to best proceed. And once you’ve received this guidance, trust it, and do something, however small, to cement your commitment. Go through each intention in this manner. And do a “token start” on each as soon as possible. And since this is a practical, action-oriented Capricorn new moon, these first actions will go a long way.

Saturn is the planet that rules Capricorn, and while Saturn is not thought of as the warmest, fuzziest planet by a long shot, it is actually very easy to work with. It wants commitment, discipline and consistency. Setting habits that give Saturn its due will help you get where you want to go.

As you probably know, a new moon is the union of the sun and moon, which puts the head and heart more or less on the same page. And while there is an inherent harmony in a new moon, sometimes there is a kick-back as well. The new moon is the dark moon, and sometimes hidden changes arise during this time. But you can trust that the changes and challenges are happening to steer you in the right direction, even if they are cryptic at first. But one thing I have learned over the years is how the changes that happen around a new moon contain very valuable lessons in shaping our responses and molding our character.

And why do I say this now? Well, this is not your typical happy-go-lucky new moon. There will be challenges for most of us. And we will be asked to step up in some way. Await this call.

Boundaries and power-balances will come into question. Mars and Pluto are still pulling at each other in opposition. Recent events have brought the tension between employee and boss into the spotlight. Expect more along the lines of striking workers, frustrated customers and boycotts. And in your own workplace, be mindful of this shift. Perhaps it’s time to stand up to the boss, or if you are a manager or supervisor, tune in to your employees and their concerns.

Almost everyone would be wise to temper their communications, particularly on social media. And having said that, even if you do err on the side of sensitivity, you still may be questioned. Just do your best to be kind. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but with a Saturn/Mercury square, we can expect that even the most well-intentioned statement, post or response may receive pushback.

And while there will be moments that seem divisive, as a whole, unity is making a comeback. Yep, I’m talking about the slow-moving outer planets, so this isn’t happening overnight, but we are beginning to see signs, and more are coming as once-hidden truths are illuminated. We will see a lot of revelations over the next two weeks.

Take some time off, or take some more time off. The sun and moon are un-aspected from other planets, which means we don’t always have to take part, jump into every debate, or scroll social media continuously. Take mini-meditation breaks throughout the day, in addition to your morning/evening meditations. And take time to shut off electronics. Remember, your phone is for you. And since you’re the one paying the bill, maybe you can turn it off now and then.

Yep, most of the aspects around this new moon are challenging, or at the least overly interesting. But Jupiter does chime in with some luck and opportunity, although it may look like a challenge at first. Breathe and ask “For what might this be good?” or “Show me the opportunity in this?”

Nurture your spiritual growth, and use everything that happens to do so. The trine between Mars and Neptune, which includes the north node, sign of purpose, tells us to reflect on everything, especially that which challenges us.

Great ideas and insights abound. As I’ve mentioned before, if you have read this far, you have received an intuitional “upgrade” recently. Go within and ask guidance to show you how to access it, or if you have been accessing it, how to deepen this connection.

Of course, how this new moon will affect you will be largely determined by where it falls in your chart, and what aspects its planets make to your planets. What do you have around the 4th -10th degree Capricorn, other earth signs–Taurus and Virgo–(positive) or other cardinal signs–Aries, Libra, Cancer (more challenging)?
