Sunday’s 24 degree Gemini full moon is one of those lunations in which there’s never a dull moment, unless you make time for a few of them, which I would highly recommend. Yep, it’s typical Gemini in that there’s a whole lot going on, and the only way to escape all the goings-on is to deliberately check out for a while.

And not only is it a multi-verse of overstimulation, we’ve also got Gemini’s ruling planet, Mercury in retro at the moment of the full moon, which can extend the feeling and effect of Mercury retro over the next two weeks (even though it is officially out of retro on the day of the full moon, December 15, and out of the storm by December 20).

The first thing I noticed about this Mercury retro was that every planet is in aspect with another planet. This isn’t all that uncommon, but it is notable here, as most of these interactions are positive or at least complementary. So, this would be a good thing to keep in mind when it seems like everything is going in the wrong direction: you’re feeling misunderstood or out-of-sorts, plans are going awry or being delayed and detoured.

All’s well that ends well. Yes, I’ve said this before. But here we are again. And I’m willing to bet that several of you will be grateful for Mercury retro’s “reversibility cloak” sometime in the near future 😉

And speaking of Mercury, you might have noticed that this full moon and Mercury going direct happen on the same day. Which of course means even more fun, as the day that Mercury changes direction can be extra tricky.

OK, on to those aspects. Of course, we all know that a full moon is characterized by a sun/moon opposition. And that in itself, can bring tension. But we have a couple more oppositions going on in this lunation, and both of them involve Mars.

First up, we’ve got Mars and Venus, the male and female relationship planets opposing one another. Yep, this would be a good time to anticipate that your partner may be a little more combative than usual, or that old relationship issues may arise again now, and do what you need to do to head that off.

The other opposition is Mars vs. Pluto. And with Mars being newly retro, the advantage goes to the boss or other powerful individual in the skirmish, so if you want to shoot for the king, as the expression goes, it’s extra crucial to make sure you don’t miss (OK, I don’t mean that literally, although I’m afraid others in the world just might). But on the other hand, most of what happens during this time will end well in the Shakespearian sense, as long as your motives are pure, and you are deliberate in your actions.

And the good news is that there are many more happy aspects than difficult ones.

Mercury and Mars are in trine, the best aspect in astrology, so chances are that your (again deliberate, well-thought-out) communications will inspire and motivate others. Even if you do step wrong, your passion (fire sign affiliates in particular) can affect others in a good way and enroll them in your vision.

Another trine is Jupiter to Venus, which is double the luck. And these are in air signs, so ideas that arise now can be brilliant and even transformational. Act on good ideas right away, even if it’s a small action. Write insights down as they occur to you. Conversations may spark brainstorms as well. One thing that’s good about a Mercury retro captured in a full moon’s chart, it opens the door to outside-the-box solutions.

Speaking of Jupiter, the planet of luck, expansion and all good things, it does square Saturn now, but usually Jupiter, no matter the aspect, will bring rewards. Saturn does require discipline, so doing the hard work related to your passion and purpose now is favored. Remember, Saturn may not be an easy planet when it’s doling out the lessons, but it’s pretty easy to appease by doing the work, being consistent, and following rules and routines. And be on the lookout for communications with people you’ve worked with or benefited in the past. They may bring opportunity and advancement either directly or indirectly.

Sextiles, the second-best, or “friendly” aspect, are also prevalent in this full moon’s chart. In fact, the three outermost planets, Pluto, Neptune and Uranus, are connected by sextiles, which should make bigger moves and changes more possible now, as friends in high places may come to your aid. Communicate about your grand vision now, as Mercury is also in this chain of sextiles, and you could get help from a friend of a friend. Remember, your passion can affect others now, and a Gemini moon is particularly talkative, so let people know what you do and what you want to do.

The two week period following a full moon is a time best-suited to creating habits of elimination, reduction and release. Ask yourself what you would like less (or none) of in the coming year. This is a good time to do a year’s-end cleaning, organizing and/or purge of things you no longer need.

And remember what I said in the beginning of this article: make time for peace and calm, because the world ain’t gonna do it for you.

This looks like a good one, and the benefits from what happens now will pay off a little now, and a lot later, so do the work most important to you.
