Thursday’s Gemini new moon (5:38 a.m. pacific) is a lunation that definitely mirrors its celestial host, the dual-personality wonder of the Zodiac.
And like two twins born under the sign of Gemini (by which I mean sun and/or moon), one will be fast-moving, multi-tasking and fun-loving, while the other will be more quietly intellectual, mindful and organized.
The way to rock this new moon and the two weeks that follow? Be both twins in nearly equal measure.
Yep, this moon is a mixed bag, with aspects that are equally positive and challenging.
Let’s start with the aspect that makes it a new moon: the moon/sun conjunction at 16 degrees Gemini. In Dane Rudhyar’s classic “The Astrological Mandala”, the symbol for this degree is: “The head of a robust youth changes into that of a mature thinker”. And this symbol is perfect for what the chart of this moon is telling us. It is the alchemy of experience into wisdom.
Gemini is one of, if not the most, intelligent of signs. However, is can also be somewhat immature in its expression, its dependence on communications technology and tendency toward overstimulation.
This moon seeks to have the best of both Gemini worlds, the wisdom and the fun, youthful expression.
And it promises romance and enjoyment, even extra abundance, with Venus conjunct the sun and moon…
But the other aspect to this threesome is Saturn in a challenging square. Yep, Saturn wants us to (sigh) get the work done first. And if we don’t, well, you know how Saturn gets when we don’t follow the rules.
Don’t freak, though. If you’ve been here for any length of time, you’ll know that Saturn is one of the simplest planets to work with. Simple but not always easy, since Saturn likes a little sacrifice every now and again. It likes discipline and routine, and a little more of that now goes a long way. Especially since a Gemini sun/moon combo will always give us plenty of options to distract us from what’s really important.
So start with that. You probably do this already, but it’s extra essential to prioritize your days. What are the top three tasks in order of importance that you need to complete today? Structuring your day using timers can be helpful, as well as doing what you say you’re going to do.
Some may read Saturn’s involvement here as a negative, but the way I look at it, Saturn has the power to keep us grounded and tethered to reality, which can be a good thing when there’s a lot of mutable bright-shiny-object-loving energy in the air.
What not to do now: anything impulsive unless the impetus to do so comes from an inspired, calm, guided certainty.
Here’s some definite good news: Pluto, the planet of power and transformation, is in trine (very good aspect) to both Jupiter (luck, expansion) and Mercury (communications and commerce). Yep, those who stretch, change and expand will earn the goods.
However, don’t force it, because Mars (aggression) challenges Pluto now. Also, if you are going to confront the boss or another in a position of power, make sure you have the receipts to back-up your action. Saturn can temper rash responses. Take deep breaths if anger arises. I would suggest a 24-hour waiting period on anything, including big purchases that could turn out to be more impulsive than necessary.
Another cool thing: Neptune and Mercury are in friendly aspect, so if you write or otherwise communicate about spiritual or esoteric matters, or do creative writing, this is a really good time to do this work and put it out into the world.
Moral of the story: you can do big things and have lots of fun, but Saturn wants its due. Make sure you have a plan, and a bit more discipline than usual will go a long way in achieving your goals. I would say that with this in mind, we are looking at a green-light new moon, although traffic conditions will vary, so traveling with a little more time and mindfulness will help tremendously.
And if you’re reading this before the new moon, and you have cleaning, organizing, or other tasks related to completion, reduction and release, do these now before Thursday, and you will already be appeasing Saturn.
And speaking of the new moon, my next public moon circle will be held on the evening of this new moon Thursday, June 6, by donation to World Central Kitchen. Sign up and find the link to donate Here!
