Every once in a while, I see a chart that looks a bit like a kite. And inevitably when there’s a chart of this kind, there is one planet that anchors it, or holds the strings. This planet is going to be important over the next two weeks. And interestingly enough, the planet holding the most strings, and anchoring the kite to the ground is Mercury, the ruling planet of Virgo.
Mercury is currently in Libra, and it’s getting ready to retro. In fact, we have one more “all clear” week before it begins its storm period (moving slower) on Friday, September 2. But this only dims it’s efficiency a bit, so the following week can also be somewhat productive. So, just looking at Mercury, I would say that this new moon (Saturday, August 27 at 1:27 a.m. pacific) begins a two-week period in which new starts and bold forward moves are favored, but that the best results will come to those who don’t wait.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s go back to the new moon. The sun and moon conjoin in the sign of the maiden at 4 degrees? What planets do you have around the 4 degree mark–especially in earth signs, but also in mutable signs? These will be important for you. And speaking of mutable signs, Mars at 4 degrees Gemini challenges the sun/moon. Should you rest? Should you be in action? There will be a lot of stop/start energy, and a fair amount of miscommunication even before the Mercury retro begins to close in. Yep, the antidote to this is one of my go-to remedies: keep coming back to your center. Expect that others will feel rudderless. Breathe. Be kind.
Mars and Mercury, however, are in favorable aspect. Since you’re reading this, I will make the prediction that most likely you will have at least one opportunity to mediate between others who have grievances or misunderstandings. Accept this as your mission, and be the peace you want to see in the world.
In other Mercury news, you will also have at least one opportunity to influence someone who is in a position of power. This may be spontaneous: the CEO of your company is visiting and you find yourself in the elevator with her. You blurt out idea you’ve been putting in the suggestion box for ages…
However, there is a fine line between being spiritually guided to do something and feeling goaded by emotion (usually stemming from fear or anger) to do it. So once again, it pays to devote extra time to centering yourself, particularly in elevators and break-rooms. Both Jupiter and Neptune oppose Mercury, which means take a breath before leaping. Ask “Is this my guidance? Is this the path of joy?” And wait till you feel it to forge ahead.
And chances are, it will all work out anyway, as Jupiter and Neptune are happily aspected by Mars and Pluto, respectively. So, yes, to continue the Goethe quote in the title of this article, “…boldness has genius, magic and power in it.”
And while we’re on the subject of Mercury, yes, there will be a retrograde from September 9 – October 2. The storm (slower) period on either side lasts about a week. Yes, you will have creative breakthroughs and petty annoyances alike during this time. Be chill about both. Probably you won’t know if the great idea was really that great until we get out of the retro, and even more likely you may not know for what greater purpose the snafu occurred either.
Sooo, because this new moon is in practical Virgo, and Virgo’s ruling planet (a more tempered Mercury than the one ruling Gemini) holds the strings to a kite that would otherwise by taken by wind, it is important to emphasize the necessity of planning, strategy, research and even rehearsal. Knowing what you want to say to the big boss, as well as how you might say it will go a long way. So, basically, line up your ducks! Prepare for success. Be a few chess moves ahead of your opponent.
Virgo is the sign of health and healing. It also likes a tidy environment and a revised cover letter to go along with your CV. It likes to take a breath and center yourself before sending that (spell-checked) email. It is, above all else, preparedness. Be prepared for opportunity to knock. And very likely, it will.
New Moon Blessings,
Jackleen
